Site location within the wider Charlton Riverside area
The site
GLi’s proposals would regenerate the site highlighted above, off Anchor and Hope Lane.
The site falls within Charlton Riverside, which was designated as an ‘Opportunity Area’ by the Mayor of London. The Royal Borough of Greenwich has previously highlighted this location as a key area for regeneration and the creation of new jobs and homes.
The site is part of GLi’s wider landholding in Charlton Riverside. We want to bring long term investment to Charlton Riverside, supporting high-quality, future-proofed infrastructure to enable development for decades to come.
Charlton Riverside – part of London’s industrial heartland
As an area of historical industrial significance, there is also an opportunity for Charlton to play a key role in London’s future economy.
We want the site we’re developing to become part of a prosperous mixed-use area reflecting the needs of local residents and businesses.
According to the Centre for London, London has lost 24 per cent of its industrial floorspace in the last 20 years. With the capital’s population set to grow further, London needs new, high-quality logistics space to serve its people and support the wider economy.
The cluster of historic buildings around the riverside area are part of a local identity which we want to enhance. The chalk and lime industries of Charlton were essential to the making of brick and tile in London, in addition to the riverside’s role as a route for transport and communication. The row of boat building and repair sheds provide a reminder of Charlton’s strategic importance next to the river.
